Recently, Oleksandr Usyk found himself in an unexpected situation at Krakow Airport in Poland.
Just days before he was scheduled to fly to London for Anthony Joshua’s fight against Daniel Dubois at Wembley, footage surfaced showing the Ukrainian boxing star being escorted away in handcuffs.
Quick Resolution and Usyk’s Statement
Fortunately, it appears the incident was nothing more than a misunderstanding.
Usyk, 37, addressed the situation shortly after the video went viral, reassuring his fans that everything was under control.
He expressed his gratitude towards Ukrainian diplomats for their swift intervention and even showed respect for the Polish law enforcement involved.
“All is well, my friends,” he stated. “There was a misunderstanding that was quickly resolved.
Thank you to everyone who was worried. And a special thanks to Ukrainian diplomats and Polish law enforcers.”
Friends and Family Weigh In
Usyk’s camp manager, Serge Lapin, chimed in to calm any further concerns, saying that the issue was just a matter of customs control missteps.
He assured fans, “Don’t worry, everything’s fine.
The customs control service is neglecting its duties.” Additionally, Usyk’s wife, Kate, took to Instagram to assure everyone that there was no cause for alarm and that her husband would provide more details later.
She posted, “Everything is okay, everything is fine!!! Alexander will explain everything later!!!
Nothing criminal… Good night to you all!!!”
Usyk’s Fight Plans and Training
Despite the hiccup, Usyk is still set to attend Joshua’s bout with Dubois, which takes place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night.
The Ukrainian champ is expected to be ringside to support Joshua, whom he has previously defeated twice.
Looking ahead, Usyk is gearing up for a rematch against Tyson Fury on December 21.
After their initial clash in May, where Usyk won on points to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion, this upcoming bout is highly anticipated.
Usyk is currently in training for the rematch and has expressed a deep motivation to refine his skills.
“From the last fight with Tyson Fury, I learned a lot about him,” Usyk said.
“We’ll prepare even better and, God willing, we’ll show our best shape again.”
He’s clearly driven, focusing on each day as a new opportunity to improve.
What’s Next?
As Usyk continues his preparation and training, fans eagerly await the December rematch and any updates he might provide about his recent airport incident.
