Roadrunner Venture Studios launches ABQ-Net to accelerate quantum technology commercialization and attract top talent in Albuquerque New Mexico

Albuquerque is stepping into the quantum era with a bold initiative that could transform the way science and business intersect in New Mexico.

Roadrunner Venture Studios, a local hub for hard science startups, has just unveiled ABQ-Net, a state-of-the-art quantum network designed to attract talent, foster innovation, and accelerate the commercialization of quantum technologies.

ABQ-Net: A New Playground for Quantum Innovation

ABQ-Net isn’t just a lab—it’s a platform for experimentation.

Developed in collaboration with Qunnect, a leader in next-generation quantum networking, the project is supported by a $25 million public investment.

The network will allow researchers and entrepreneurs to test and validate quantum technologies in real-world conditions, providing a crucial bridge between laboratory breakthroughs and market-ready solutions.

Anchored at Qunnect’s downtown Albuquerque offices and the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies—a Department of Energy facility operated by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories—ABQ-Net is positioned at the heart of New Mexico’s scientific ecosystem.

Roadrunner Venture Studios: Building Companies at the Frontier

At the helm is Adam Hammer, Co-founder and CEO of Roadrunner Venture Studios.

The studio has a clear mission: take research of national importance and transform it into scalable, venture-backed companies.

While Roadrunner has already made a name in advanced energy, robotics, and precision manufacturing, quantum technology is its latest frontier.

By combining founder mentorship, product strategy, operational guidance, and early-stage funding, the studio accelerates the journey from scientific discovery to marketable innovation.

A Collaborative Coalition for Quantum Growth

ABQ-Net is only the first phase of the broader Roadrunner Quantum Lab initiative, which aims to strengthen New Mexico’s role in the national quantum landscape.

Roadrunner has brought together nearly a dozen partners, including Elevate Quantum, Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, quantum startups like Qunnect, QuEra, and Maybell, the University of New Mexico, and venture capital firms such as DCVC, Playground Global, and Quantonation.

This coalition is designed to ensure that the state becomes a hub for both talent and entrepreneurship in quantum technologies.

What’s Next for ABQ-Net?

With ABQ-Net now operational, the next steps will focus on scaling its impact.

Researchers will begin testing technologies in real-world conditions, startups will have access to cutting-edge facilities and mentorship, and the studio aims to spin out multiple companies that could redefine quantum applications in energy, computing, and beyond.

For Albuquerque, this marks a new chapter—one where science, innovation, and entrepreneurship converge at the quantum frontier.
