Apartment building fire in the Fremont/Wallingford neighborhood

SEATTLE — On Feb. 25 around 4:30 a.m., Fire Alarm Center dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting heavy smoke coming from a 2-story apartment building on the 3600 block of Woodland Park Ave. N. Engines 9, 17 and Ladder 9 were the first units on scene, and reported visible flames and heavy smoke coming from the front-left side of the building’s first and second floors.
Firefighters evacuated the entire building and made entry into the second floor, however they confirmed the seat of the fire was directly below them.
Additional crews made entry into a first-floor apartment unit and were able to get water on the fire from both inside and outside of the building.
After 10-minutes on scene, firefighters reported the first-floor ceiling and stairwell was starting to burn up through to the second-floor.
Firefighters were able to knockdown the main body of the fire within 20-minutes on scene, and began digging out hotspots within the walls, ceiling and void spaces. The fire was fully extinguished by 5:27 a.m.
The incident is under investigation, and no injuries were reported. The Red Cross was activated for several displaced residents.
