Andy Murray Announces He Will Withdraw from Singles at Paris Olympics to Focus on Doubles with Dan Evans Due to Ongoing Back Issues

Andy Murray has shared that he plans to bow out of the singles competition at the Paris Olympics, marking the end of his storied tennis career.

The announcement comes as he shifts his focus to playing doubles with Dan Evans, a decision influenced by his recent back surgery.

Originally, Murray was set to compete in the singles event, which is scheduled to start with the draw at 10am on Thursday.

However, he has decided to withdraw from singles to concentrate on doubles with Evans.

Despite his previous success, including two Olympic gold medals in singles from 2012 and 2016, Murray’s recent back issues have led him to prioritize doubles.

“I’ve committed to playing doubles with Dan, and that’s where we’re focusing our efforts,” Murray explained.

“Dan will still play singles, but I’ve been mostly practicing doubles while on vacation in Greece.

This gives us the best shot at a medal.”

Murray’s decision stems from ongoing back problems.

After undergoing surgery to remove a spinal cyst, he’s still not at his peak fitness.

The possibility of playing multiple singles matches in a day was deemed too risky for his recovery.

Although Murray has yet to officially withdraw, it’s expected he will do so when the draw is finalized on Thursday.

This move likely means he has already played his last singles match.
