Anambra Govt Urges Achala And Urum Communities To Toe Part Of Peace Over Land Dispute

Anambra State Government has urged the people of Achala and Urum Communities in Awka North Local Government Area, involved in land dispute to embrace peace for the benefit of the state.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Chief Greg Obi made the call when a section of Achala Community staged a peaceful protest over a land dispute between it and Urum Community at the Government House, Awka.

Correspondent Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the Commissioner, represented by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Mr. Henry Nwasike said that government is not unaware of the land dispute in the areas and observed that for the elders of Achala Community to accompanied the protesters to the Government House, showed their commitment and willingness for the state government to look into their worries.

Mr. Nwasike, who implored them to articulate their grievances in writing to enable the ministry of Lands to look into it, also assured them that the ministry will invite Mr. Ferdinand Onwuje to explain some of the allegations leveled against him.

On his part, the spokesman of the group, Pastor Joseph Nnalue, explained that they came to plead with the state government to stop Urum Community from taking possession of the lands in dispute which they said belong to Achala Community.

The demonstrators displayed placards with various inscriptions like “No to incitement of communal clashes”, “No to impunity in Achala Lands”, “Achala is a peace-loving community ” among others.
