It’s been a tough couple of seasons for Chelsea, as the club has struggled to break into the top four.

Ever since Todd Boehly took over in 2022, things have been looking grim, and a former player has called the situation a ‘disgrace.’

When Todd Boehly’s consortium acquired Chelsea from Roman Abramovich, the club embarked on a major spending spree, investing over £1 billion in new players.

Despite this hefty investment, the team’s performance has been lackluster, finishing well outside the top four in the past two seasons. They’ve also cycled through six different managers, including interim roles, with Enzo Maresca now at the helm in a bid to turn things around.

Former Player’s Concern

Frank Leboeuf, a Chelsea legend from 1996 to 2001, has voiced his frustration with the current state of the club.

He doubts that Maresca will be able to make significant improvements anytime soon.

“Some fans think Chelsea can just start fresh next season, but after spending a billion pounds, it’s not really starting from scratch,” Leboeuf told Instant Casino. “As a former player, it’s kind of a disgrace to see what’s happening.”

Youth Over Experience

Under Boehly’s leadership, Chelsea has focused heavily on signing young talents, including promising teenagers and emerging stars like Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Mykhailo Mudryk.

However, Leboeuf believes this approach is flawed. He argues that without experienced players, Chelsea will struggle to win the Premier League.

“The talent is there, but you need leaders and reliable players,” he said. “If they keep going this way, they might never win another Premier League title.”

Pre-Season Challenges

Chelsea’s pre-season hasn’t been smooth sailing either. They drew 2-2 with Wrexham and lost 4-1 to Celtic. However, they finally secured a win against Club America with a 3-0 victory.

With three more pre-season matches against Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan, Maresca has a few more opportunities to prepare his squad before Chelsea’s Premier League opener against City on August 18.
