Geno Bonnalie, who usually spends his days lugging golf clubs for the 186th-ranked golfer Joel Dahmen, decided to test his own sprinting abilities after joking about Noah Lyles’ performance at the Paris Olympics.

At 40 years old, Bonnalie’s week typically revolves around navigating 72 golf holes. However, during the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina, a tropical storm postponed the first round, giving Bonnalie and Dahmen some unexpected downtime.

While in Paris on Thursday, Noah Lyles fell short of his goal to win both the 100m and 200m sprints, settling for bronze in the 200m final. Post-race, Lyles, who later disclosed he had COVID, required medical attention on the track.

Bonnalie couldn’t resist poking fun at Lyles’ struggle, saying in a social media video, “Noah Lyles… ‘Oh my lungs hurt after running 200m and I’m the best in the world!'”

Inspired by the moment, Dahmen dared his caddie to show off his speed over 200m.

“I have the over/under at 32 seconds,” Dahmen challenged, to which Bonnalie responded, “That’s probably close.”

When the storm finally eased, they took to the road for a makeshift race, with Dahmen capturing the action on camera. Bonnalie, who admitted he hadn’t run 200 meters continuously since high school, managed to complete the distance, incorporating a bend to mimic Lyles’ Olympic challenge.

Dahmen drove alongside, and Bonnalie hit speeds of up to 13mph, finishing in 34 seconds before collapsing in exhaustion. “I felt like my boobs were flopping,” Bonnalie joked afterward. “Maybe I’ll have salad for dinner… I need a banana to stop the cramping.”
