Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Absent at Late Monarch’s Burial, Sparks Anger

Failed Governor’s Presence

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has reportedly declined an invitation to attend the burial of the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Ado Ibrahim.

The late monarch passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

However, neither the governor nor any state government official were present at the burial, which took place late in the evening, following Islamic customs.

Governor Bello’s absence at the burial of a prominent traditional ruler has raised questions about the relationship between him and the late monarch.

The strained ties were previously evidenced when the governor issued a query to the late monarch in 2022 for not attending the inauguration of state projects, some of which were located in his domain.

This recent absence has sparked anger among the residents, who expected a more dignified representation at the funeral.

It’s worth noting that the absence of government officials during such events can be perceived as a lack of respect for traditional and community leaders, which can strain relationships and lead to public discontent.

This situation highlights the importance of maintaining respectful relationships between political leaders and traditional authorities for the harmony and well-being of the society.
