Obiano Inaugurates Dual Carriage Anambra International Passenger And Cargo Airport Road

Anambra State government has inaugurated the five-point two-kilometre Dual Carriage Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport Road, the major access road to the airport.

Governor Willie Obiano performed the ceremony at the road entrance by Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana was there reports that the road furniture including drainage systems, two bridges, four box culverts, walkway on both sides, street lights, as well as road markings are complete.

The road has a minimum life span of thirty years.

Governor Obiano said that since it is a dual carriage road of five point two kilometers, the total number of kilometers is over eleven point five, stating that over thirty-kilometer power line has been drawn to supply power to the airport.

Giving an update on airport in view of the anticipated upgrade, Governor Obiano said that everything about the terminal building including the seven escalators have been completed, saying that the DVOR and ILS have been energized.

He said that armed with the code, the three will be harmonized and calibrated by the Aviation industry, noting that the avio bridges and zigler fire trucks have arrived and is being cleared and added that the alternative four-point five-kilometer road through the Umueri axis is about seventy percent done.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor recalled that in 2015, the road location was a farmland, praising the firm that handled the project for doing a good job.

He said that the road trasverses Awkuzu, Nteje and Umueri Communities, pointed out that it was done to the best international standards and extoled the Governor and the supervising and delivery team that made the airport possible in fifteen months.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Transition Committee of Oyi Local Government Area, Dr Nnamdi Nwadiogbu commended the Governor for all his legacies in the state.

Speaking to the ABS, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Primus Odili tasked the communities on protecting the road and its furniture.

Present at the ceremony were the wife of the Governor Dr Ebelechukwu  Obiano members of the state executive council, traditional rulers, Transition Committee Chairmen, political appointees, among others.
