University of Abuja to graduate 8769 students

Despite the on-going strike by the Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof AbdulRasheed Na’Allah says the university is determined to hold it 25th and 26th convocation ceremony as scheduled.

   
According to Prof.

Na ‘Allah , the University is combining 2sets of  graduation in which a total number of 8769 students would be graduated
The Vice Chancellor  said for the 25th convocation set, 23 students earned first class, 1052 made second class upper grades, 3061 got second class lower while 324 students made third class.

For the 26th convocation set, 31 students earned first class,973 made second class upper divison,2920 made second class lower while 257 students made third class.

The Vice Chancellor further noted that the university is also graduating and clearing a backlog of 2929 students of Center for Distance Learning.

Reacting to some of the issues that prompted the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, saying the government is making a “mistake” of not supporting university  education.

Na’Allah illustrated his position with the Japanese and the Chinese government saying they emerged world economies through their investments in university education.

According to him, “no nation that wants to stand strong will  its university system, look at China,  everyday Japan is becoming a big economy, simply because of effective management of its resources, we must contribute our own quota to the development of our own universities”.

On  Revitalisation fund, Prof Na’Allah disclosed that University of Abuja has received the sum of N390m and N540M as two tranches so far.
